Typography, wayfinding and signage system, graphic design, corporate design and digital media are the themes of the exhibition ‘Dimension of the Plane – Communication Design in Germany’ conceived by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the German Design Council in Frankfurt am Main.

With about 150 examples the exhibition shows how communication design helps us navigate through the jungle of everyday information.

Andreas Dresen’s tragicomic movie focuses on two women and their daily struggle for survival during a summer in Berlin. Katrin, a jobless single mum, and Nike, a nurse, live in the same house and are best friends. Although always dating the wrong men and still pursuing for happiness, they don’t lose their humor and spend many nights together on Nike’s balcony, drinking and chatting. However, Nike gets to know the trucker Ronald one day.

The film won the Bayerischer Filmpreis (Bavarian Film Award) for Dresen as “Best Director”, the Silver Hugo Award for Inka Friedrich and Nadja Uhl together as “Best Actress”, and sold nearly one million tickets at the box office, making it the ninth most popular German language film of 2006.

A close encounter with a Hong Kong based photographer KIRIBANE. The Fringe Club will unveil his new exhibition (S)exposure . In photographic terms exposure is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium.

He accumulated this physical quantity of visible light energy (weighted by the luminosity function) applied to a surface (mostly on humans of either sex) during a given exposure time. He defines it as:

 S= E / x

where

S is the luminous exposure (usually in lux seconds)

E is the image-plane illuminance (usually in lux)

x is not only the exposure time but as well the unknown factor
